IMPORTANT: Over the summer DoIT has refreshed the wireless system in all the residence halls but needed to also change the wired authentication system to support. Instructions for configuring your device are provided in the links below.
Users in rooms with a wireless access point (white box labeled "Cisco") installed will need to connect to it. All other jacks in those rooms have been disabled. If you are in a room without a wireless device you may use your wall jack. Any port on the bottom of the access point except "Passthrough" should work.
UMBC provides a 10/100/1000 Mbps network connection to every student living on campus. Access may be easily obtained by plugging in an Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the three ports located on the bottom of our wireless device or the jack provided in each residential room. Each port has been configured to have one IP address.
Users must user their UMBC credentials to sign into the campus network. For instructions on configuring Windows and OSX please visit https://resnet.umbc.edu. For devices that don't support those instructions (gaming consoles and streaming devices) you may register your device manually at https://register.resnet.umbc.edu. You must register prior to first use, but registration is required only once per semester. For more registration information please visit https://resnet.umbc.edu .
If you need to connect more devices than available ports, a router with wireless disabled may be required. Use a Category 5e Ethernet cable or better to connect to the network. Ethernet cables may be purchased from the Campus Bookstore.
