Resources for Scheduling Coordinators - Summer/Fall 2010

This page includes all the resources Scheduling Coordinators might need to create and edit the Summer/Fall 2010 Schedule of Classes.  Included below are self-paced learning videos, quick reference guides, and descriptions of instructor led classes offered throughout the scheduling cycle.

Combined Sections Detail Report

The combined sections detail report provides a summary of the combined classes in SA for a selected term, session and subject.  It can be used to ensure the combined sections in SA include the appropriate data for each combined section.

To view the report, select a subject, term, and session, then click the View Report button.  Your report will be generated and displayed in PDF format.  Use the PDF features to navigate through the report.

Self-Paced Learning / Videos

Spring 2010 Refresher - This video outlines the changes that experienced scheduling coordinators need to know about creating the schedule of classes for Spring 2010.

Schedule of Classes Fundamentals (for PC users) - This self-paced class is designed for scheduling coordinators.  It details the steps for creating a new class in SA, editing a class in SA, and adding additional section numbers in SA.  Associated class numbers are introduced in this class.

Schedule of Classes Advanced (for PC users) - This self-paced class is designed for scheduling coordinators.  It details how to create classes that have multiple components (i.e., Lecture and Lab or Discussions).  It details how to effectively use associated class numbers to ensure all class sections are appropriately linked together.

Printing the Schedule of Classes Report - This short video walks you through how to print the schedule of classes report in SA. 

Forms/Training Handouts for Scheduling Coordinators

Lunch and Learn Handouts - the handouts distributed during the lunch & learn session include an overview of changes for the current scheduling cycle, a quick reference guide for printing the class schedule, description of how to create auto-enroll classes, and various related documents.

Scheduling Worksheets- an excel spreadsheet that can be used as a template for determining how to setup your classes.  It includes columns for section number, associated number, component type, auto-enroll number, meeting pattern, instructors, etc.  The template can be downloaded and modified to meet your individual departmental requirements.

Combined Classes Request Form- a PDF document that should be completed for cross-listed courses and sent to the Registrar's office.

Special Room Request Form - complete this PDF document to request a room for a class and send it to the Registrar's office for consideration.

Scheduling Guidelines - document that outlines standard time blocks for 3 credit classes and the Distribution of Class Meeting Times*.*


 

 Instructor-led Training for Schedule of Classes

The following training and informational sessions will be offered for Scheduling Coordinators during the scheduling cycle.

Lunch & Learn - Creating the Schedule of Classes for Summer/Fall 2010

Audience: Experienced Scheduling Coordinators who are responsible for entering the summer or fall 2010 schedule of classes.

Length: 1:00

Description:This one hour session will provide veteran Scheduling Coordinators with updates on what is happening with the Summer/Fall 2010 Schedule of Classes, Dates and Deadlines, Lessons Learned and Best Practices for editing department schedules.

Refresher Training for Scheduling Coordinators

Audience: Scheduling Coordinator who entered classes in SA for Fall/Summer 2009, but may not feel completely comfortable working with the Schedule of Classes.

Length: Varies (1-2 hours)

Description:   If you require additional assistance to enter your schedule of classes, one-on-one training or hands-on instructor led classroom training is available on an as needed basis.  The classes will be tailored to meet the needs of the participants in the classroom.

Schedule of Classes - Fundamentals

(Note:  Classes are not currently scheduled at this time. ) 

Audience: NEW Scheduling Coordinators (no prior experience with Sched. Of Classes)

Length: 4:00

Description: The first of two courses that will introduce you to the concepts and business processes around entry of the Schedule of Classes for Winter/Spring 2010. This class will provide you with extensive hands-on practice.

We will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the Course Catalog
  • Generating  the Print Class Schedule report
  • Making edits to existing class sections
  • Adding new sections to an existing class
  • Creating a basic 3-credit class from scratch
  • Creating Special Topic and Independent Study classes

Schedule of Classes - Advanced

Audience: NEW Scheduling Coordinators (no prior experience with Sched. Of Classes)

Length: 4:00

Description:  This course will introduce to you the concepts of building a more complex schedule of classes. Once you have explored the concepts involved with class associations, multiple components, graded and non-graded, enroll and non-enroll and the use of wildcards you will learn the power that you now have to create and control your class schedules that best fit your needs.

(SOC- Fundamentals is the prerequisite for this class)
