Description: The Office of Academic Affairs, Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has an opportunity for an Academic Development Specialist or a Senior Academic Development Specialist. This position is responsible for working with faculty and others to guide the planning, design, development and implementation of distance education courses at UMB. The selected candidate is responsible for curriculum innovation, content design and for ensuring the development and maintenance of the highest quality distance education courses. In addition the Specialist/Senior Specialist explores and tests emerging instructional technologies for use in an academic setting, and provides training and support for faculty to advance and improve their skills in online learning. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable of adult learning theory, distance education pedagogical techniques, course development planning and project management. The selected candidate will ideally have previous experience with the Quality Matters course design and evaluation process, and familiarity with the ADDIE or AGILE approach to course design. The Specialist/Senior Specialist should have knowledge and experience in writing instructional objectives that utilize Blooms Taxonomy.
Qualifications:
Academic Development Specialist
Education: Master’s degree in psychology, education, counseling, or a related field of study.
Experience: Three (3) years of related experience providing educational skills counseling, training, instructional design, or other related experience.
Senior Academic Development Specialist
Education: Master’s degree in psychology, education, counseling, or other related field of study.
Experience: Five (5) years of related experience providing educational skills counseling, training, instructional design, or other related experience.
