Instructors can set the behavior for attachments in Ultra Documents, Assessments, folders, learning modules, and the Course Outline.

Tell Me

  1. Create an Ultra Document or assessment in your Ultra course.
  2. Add an attachment within the context of your Document or assessment.

  3. After the file uploads, choose the behavior for the attachment:

view and download: Students can view the file within Ultra AND download it to their own devices
This is the default behavior for attachments in existing and new Ultra courses.

view only: Students can ONLY view the file on screen by expanding or collapsing the (v) icon to the right

download only: Students can ONLY download the file by clicking on the ( ... ) icon to the right

  4. Continue creating your Ultra document or assessment.

NOTE: The behavior can only be set at the time the file is uploaded - you cannot change the behavior after the file is uploaded. If you must change the behavior, you must remove the file and upload it again.

The view option renders the file in the web browser without the need for the native application (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office).

Supported file types include:

  • Adobe Acrobat Documents (PDF)
  • Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX)
  • Microsoft Excel (XLS, XLSX)
  • OpenOffice Documents (ODS, ODT, ODP)

Users can still download non-supported file types.

Inline rendering applies to new and existing attachments to Ultra Documents and Assessments. To render files inline, Office files are converted to PDF on demand and are cached for 30 days.

Files converted to PDF as part of this feature do not count towards your quota.
