Unfortunately, most of the tuners that are available (especially those found in local retail and big-box stores) are ATSC only, and are therefore incompatible with our QAM system.

There are two different digital television standards, ATSC and QAM.  ATSC is meant for over-the-air, antenna broadcasts to home users, where QAM is the standard employed by digital cable systems. We have tested a couple tuners and verified their compatibility; check the article Does UMBC provide converter boxes? for more information. While this is not an all-inclusive list, we have verified that they do indeed work.
