Tell Me

  1. Download the VMWare view client installer by connecting to the  Virtual Desktop web portal  and selecting Install VMWare Horizon View Client from the available options. You will be directed to a site from which you can download the most recent version of the VMWare client appropriate for your version of Windows. See this article if you are unsure what version of Windows you are using.


  2. Double click on the file you downloaded in the previous step in order to install the program. If you are prompted with a security warning, click Run to proceed with the installation. If prompted by User Account Control to allow the program to make changes to your computer, click Yes to proceed with the installation. 

  3. After the installer appears, click next to proceed. 



  4.   Click the check-box to accept the EULA and then click Next to proceed with the installation.



  5. Leave the default settings and click Next to proceed with the installation.



  6. Enter https://virtual.vdi.umbc.edu as the default server address and click Next to proceed.



  7. Leave the default settings and click Next to proceed with the installation.




  8.  Leave the default settings and click Next to proceed with the installation.



  9. Click Install to begin installing the software.



  10. Click Finish to complete the software installation



  11. To connect to Desktone, Start the VMWare client from Start Menu -> All Programs -> VMWare -> VMWare Horizon View Client.

  12. The VMWare client should appear shortly. Double-click on the listed server to initiate a connection to the virtual environment.



  13. Enter your UMBC username and password in the labeled fields, and click Login.



  14. Select the virtual lab computer you would like to use from among the available options, and click Connect to launch the connection to your virtual machine.



  15. After a few moments, your desktop should become available.
