UMBC's Virtual Computing Environment allows users to access a virtual lab or staff workstation anywhere there is an internet connection. Depending on affiliation and selection, a user can access virtual desktop, just like they were sitting at a workstation on campus.
VDE can be accessed through the following web portal or clicking the icon below: https://virtual.vdi.umbc.edu/.
You can establish a connection to a virtual desktop through your web browser, or by installing the VMWare Horizon View Client on your PC (which we recommend for optimal performance). Please see the FAQ articles below for guidance on how to connect to VDE.
The VDE virtual environment is available 24/7, and can support up to 100 simultaneous users.
Alert! COMSOL removed from the GenLab image.
Due to concerns related to licensing and space utilization, COMSOL has been removed from the GenLab image and migrated to a new specialized desktop pool (AspenOne) with other low usage high-impact applications. Access to the AspenOne pool is restricted to those who need access to the software for research or class related purposes. If you need access to the AspenOne pool, you must submit an RT ticket requesting access to the Desktop Support or VDE queues.
