Position: Sr. Learning and Development Specialist (R11205)

Description: The Sr Learning and Development Specialist will work with the Sr Director - Learning and Development to set the strategic direction of the department while managing the design, development, delivery and maintenance of core curricula programs and managing several key departmental programs and systems that drive learning and development.  This highly visible individual contributor role is responsible for leadership training and coaching, facilitating leadership classes, and corporate support and sales training for Choice Hotels employees.


    • lead large and mid-scale learning /instructional design projects across the organization
      • manage instructional design projects from assessment through implementation using an iterative approach to gain buy-in and commitment from internal clients
      • design and develop training materials and job aids using a disciplined instructional design approach
    • direct and oversee management of programs designed to build associate/manager communities, increase awareness, and broaden networks
    • facilitate classroom and virtual training programs including vendor supplied programs, core programs, soft skills and Choice-specific training
    • manage and oversee the internal LMS platform


  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience
  • ability to travel on average 25% over multiple days
  • instructional design experience – prefer at least two years
  • knowledge of adult learning principles and theory and ability to apply robust instructional design methodologies
  • prior experience leading direct reports required to provide leadership insights to organization and management
  • familiarity and experience with current e-learning technologies preferred
    • designing and developing e-learning content
    • SCORM and AICC standards for e-learning
    • e-learning development tools (Storyline, Articulate, Captivate)
    • webinars/virtual delivery using tools such as WebEx
  • training background helpful
  • proven success working with subject matter experts across various functions and levels
